Faith is crazy

Faith wouldn’t be faith if we had all the answers.

Sometimes we come up with cop-out answers to difficult questions. But no one person can answer all your questions about life. We can read many books and talk to the super theologians or philosophers or scientists, and still we are all playing a guessing game just grasping for something to hope for.  We can’t expect anyone to give us the ultimate reason why we are here, why God does what He does, and why bad things happened to good people.  I think it’s good to face the hard questions and deal with them,  but when you keep going in circles and end up just confused and stagnate, it’s time to stop and surrender to God.

When we get caught up on what we don’t know, it will keep us from moving forward. Every day I have questions about why God would allow certain things in this World. Even When God blesses me or answers my desperate cries I start thinking about people who pray and pray and never get healed or delivered from their bondage. There are many questions that end in a huge _________________. But God’s Word doesn’t say when we follow Christ, we will know every thing.

“Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty? 8 They are higher than the heavens–what can you do? They are deeper than the depths of the grave–what can you know?9 Their measure is longer than the earth and wider than the sea.10 “If he comes along and confines you in prison and convenes a court, who can oppose him?11 Surely he recognizes deceitful men; and when he sees evil, does he not take note? ”  Job 11:7-11

We need to know that He is our Creator and he is Just.  He is our Maker so let’s trust Him.

” Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

In the same way that pain and suffering are beyond our understanding, God’s peace is beyond our understanding.  God’s comfort and peace doesn’t make sense. Christ dying on the cross for people who are always trying to replace him and run from Him, doesn’t make sense.  Grace is crazy.  But when we look to God we find this crazy grace, crazy peace, and crazy love.

Our Creator wants us to love as furiously as He does. I believe that because we have this choice to love Him, those that chose Christ, love Him genuinely. We want to be in His presence. He doesn’t want people in His presence that don’t want to be there. When giving us the choice, He sacrifices a World without suffering.

Are you wrestling with daunting doubts and questions when it comes to your faith?  We all do at some point. I want to pray for us today. We need our God to help us in those moments we feel like it’s all too confusing to grasp.

Father, I pray you meet us all right where we are in our faith. We can’t figure this out on our own. I know the point of our life is not to figure it all out. The point of life is love you and others. Help us to sort out our questions and give us this crazy peace we just can’t grasp. But our experience with you explodes all these questions.  We feel you and know you are taking care of us.  No matter what, we know we have experienced your grace and love. Thank you Lord for  loving us . Guide us in this life and give us the strength to deal with the pain and the mystery of it all. In Christ’s name amen.

  1. “When giving us the choice, He sacrifices a World without suffering.” I love this line! so many of us are angry or confused about why God would allow suffering but in the end it is our choices that have created the problems. That by giving us free will he allowed for the possibility of suffering if we did not choose the right.

However, we can i believe know all things that our heart desires us that we know. You quote Job where God is correcting Job for questioning Him but he was asking if Job could do those things on His own, but in Jeremiah 33:3 He says “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (or in another translation “you could not know alone”) Through Christ we are given the ability to know what we could not have know on our own!

  2. Amen. It’s not about knowing all the answers and having an answer for everything that happens. It’s about having faith regardless. Thanks for the reminder!
