The Best Weapon is knowing who you are

God loves you just as you are and is equipping you to fight against the enemy and set captives free!

God will fight for you when you can’t . Your biggest weapon is knowing that God loves you and calls you his child. Knowing who you are is half the battle .

The enemy can sneak in and we believe the lies he says about us when we start doubting our value and the way God sees us!

Remember Jesus says in John 15:15,

“I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

And don’t forget ,
1 Peter 2:9

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light”

Psalm 139:13-16

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

I wanna visit the first church

“Brothers! Brothers! So now what do we do?”

Peter said, “Change your life. Turn to God and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, so your sins are forgiven. Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is targeted to you and your children, but also to all who are far away – whomever, in fact, our Master God invites.”
He went on in this vein for a long time, urging them over and over, “Get out while you can; get out of this sick and stupid culture!”

That day about three thousand took him at his word, were baptized and were signed up. They committed themselves to the teaching of the apostles, the life together, the common meal, and the prayers. Everyone around was in awe – all those wonders and signs done through the apostles! And all the believers lived in a wonderful harmony, holding everything in common. They sold whatever they owned and pooled their resources so that each person’s need was met. They followed a daily discipline of worship in the Temple followed by meals at home, every meal a celebration, exuberant and joyful, as they praised God. People in general liked what they saw. Every day their number grew as God added those who were saved.
Acts 2:38-47

3 reasons why God’s way is better than mine

I don’t know about you but I’m always needing a reminder why God’s way is better than mine. It usually takes me falling on my face or getting into trouble to remember. So here’s a few reason that maybe we can all turn to when we become impatient or we are about to make an unwise decision.

1. I’ve never regretted waiting on God, but usually regret jumping the gun.

EVERY time I ask God for direction and I have patience, I realize it was for the best. But when I feel lonely or depressed and make a decision based on my desires without really consulting God, I end up regretting it. I at least learn from the mistake, but realize it lead to confusion and chaos.

2. When I start truly living by faith, I see God’s promises come true.

For years I didn’t believe God’s word . I didn’t trust that He would give me the desires of my heart if I delighted in him. (Psalm 37:4)

I didn’t trust that he would never leave me or forsake me. (Deut 31:6)
That I would never be put to shame, (Psalm 25:3) that I can do anything through Christ. (Phil 4:13)That he is able to do immeasurably more than I ask or imagine . (Eph 3:20)

But once I finally put fear aside and trusted and delighted in God I saw all these things come true! God is so faithful !

3. I only want what I want, but God wants what is best.

God wants to BLESS us! He longs for us to find joy. (Rom 14:17) But we tend to only see how we feel in the moment, and based on that we look for something to stop the sadness or loneliness. Or we want to make tons of money right now. Or we want to date that person we think is our perfect match.

When the things we want don’t play out , God has something way better .

There are many reasons why God’s ways are better, because ya know , He’s God! But it’s so easy to forget when we don’t like the way our lives are panning out.

Can you come up with another reason, personal to you ?

Bananas and Coconut Popsicles

I left the house mad this morning.

A family member ate ALL of my bananas and most of my coconut popsicles. I wouldn’t care if it was just one, but I just went shopping and I have zero money left to buy more for two weeks.

Maybe you relate and this makes you mad too. If you’ve had people eat your food, I’m sure it stirs up your anger. How dare they!

This might seem silly to you. It’s just fruit. It’s just popsicles.

Well these small moments are the moments it’s hard for me to actually live out my life in love. A little thing ticks me off early in the morning and I leave the house in a tizzy feeling like the whole world is against me. I had to talk myself out of being upset, all the way to work. I live at home for free. I’ve eaten other peoples’ food before. By the time I got to work I felt so silly because it’s not the end of the world.

When my 4 year old niece cries over something silly I say, “Guess what? Monkeys aren’t attacking the World.” and she always starts to laugh. I had to tell myself that monkeys aren’t attacking the World.

Sometimes we think trying to live like Christ is all about avoiding things like drinking, smoking, drugs, murder, foul language, lying, legalism, watching too much blood and guts(unless it’s the Walking Dead of course),  and so on and so forth. But sometimes it’s less about avoiding certain things and it’s more about  how we react to people eating our food, or asking us to help out when we are tired, how we treat our family, and how we treat people on a basic human level, day to day.   These days,  this  has been my struggle; the temptation to be selfish in the small moments.

I think, instead of just having a knee jerk reaction to things, we should take a breath. Let’s tell the people who have upset us, how we feel, but realize that these things are trivial. Many times we might have the right to be upset, but if we communicate in love, and try to solve the problem instead of just getting angry, the issue might not happen again. If we just get mad, yell, and then dwell on it, we will get bitter over silly things and later we just wait for it to happen again so we can pounce on that person.

Things are usually not as big of a deal when we let our emotions subside.

What is your struggle in the small moments? Let’s ask God to help us not be selfishly reactionary and to take some time to respond calmly and in love. I know I need God’s help.

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
James 3:17-18

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
Colossians 3:15

Sticky Situation ?

We all get stuck once in a while. Either we trip over temptation, or we just can’t break a bad habit. Maybe we can’t get motivated to be disciplined or we have a relationship we can’t seem to repair.

Think about your life and what area you would consider yourself stuck in.

You can’t get unstuck by yourself.

Take this frustration before God. Maybe you’ve come up with a step by step plan or you feel like you’ve tried everything. Sometimes plans work but then sometimes they don’t .  Let go of the idea that it’s completely up to you to become free.

Surrender it to God. Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you. (Psalm 55:22)

When you don’t have the strength, God will take over. This takes patience and trust in God. But he is faithful.

Sit in his presence. Read his Word. Remember his promises. Just because you are stuck doesn’t mean his promises aren’t true.

The Lord will fight for you! He longs to bring you blessing.

Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! (Isaiah 30:18)

Bring  your situation to your friends. Ask for prayer. Be vulnerable. There will be people who might judge or tell you what worked for them. Be prepared for a lot of advice. Some of it might be wrong for you. But some of it might help you.

God works through our community of friends and family, so be listening for what God might tell you or what he can do for you through people.

There is an enemy at work here. Don’t lose hope! There are amazing things you will do when you are free! The enemy doesn’t want that!

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:12

When we get frustrated with our circumstances we want to escape or numb ourselves. We can’t control our surroundings so we become bitter and angry. Whatever vice you are using to escape will not help you. Our way leads to weariness and emptiness but God’s ways leads to peace.

Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, give I to you. Don’t let your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful. John 14:27

We are all stuck in different kinds of prisons ranging from being lazy to a drug addiction. There is not one way to become unstuck. It takes a collaboration of a willing humble heart and a strong able God.

If you want to become unstuck, something will need to change in your life. If we continue doing the same things, we will not move. You know what needs to change and maybe you’re scared. You might need to wait and be patient or you might need to take action. Pray and allow God to tell you what you need in your specific situation. God wants you free! And don’t forget:

I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13
